This Privacy Policy explains how Muzhai handles screenshots, OCR text, translation content, recent screenshots, recordings, settings, purchases, licensing, and diagnostic information.

Tags: Local-first / No tracking / No advertising SDK / No third-party analytics SDK / No account required

1. Data Collection

By default, Muzhai does not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data.

Muzhai does not include third-party advertising SDKs, does not track users across apps or websites, and does not require an account.

The developer does not receive your screenshots, OCR text, translation text, recordings, recent screenshots, or local files unless you explicitly export a diagnostics package, share files, or complete a purchase through the App Store.

2. Local Processing

  • Screenshot capture, annotation, redaction, export, recent screenshots, and screen recording are processed primarily on your Mac.
  • OCR uses Apple Vision locally by default.
  • Screenshot translation uses Apple system Translation framework on macOS 15 or later. The current App Store version does not expose external generative-AI providers, external translation services, or third-party provider configuration.
  • QR recognition, privacy detection, filename templates, and export rendering are performed locally.
  • MP4 / GIF recordings are saved locally. Optional microphone narration is included in MP4 recordings only when you enable it and grant microphone access. The first Mac App Store release does not promote system-audio recording or mouse-click indicators as recording features.
  • Copying images, copying files, copying OCR text, or dragging content happens only when you initiate the action.

3. Permissions

  • Screen Recording permission: used to read screen, window, or selected region content when you initiate capture or recording.
  • Microphone permission: used only for optional narration in MP4 screen recordings.
  • File and folder access: used to open local images, save screenshots, export files, save recordings, or read locations you explicitly choose.
  • Clipboard: written only when you copy, use a copy shortcut, or drag files from the app.
  • Network access: used for Apple StoreKit purchase and restore flows, support or privacy links that you open, and macOS management of system translation language resources. Muzhai does not use a developer-operated server to process translation text.
  • Accessibility permission: the Mac App Store version does not require Accessibility permission. The current public release does not expose Accessibility-based window-region detection, scrolling capture, or strong automation entry points.

4. Translation Services

Screenshot translation is initiated by you. The current App Store version uses Apple system Translation framework on macOS 15 or later.

Muzhai does not expose external generative-AI providers, external translation services, custom endpoints, or third-party provider configuration, and it does not send translation text to a developer-operated server. Language availability and resource downloads are managed by macOS.

Muzhai does not automatically upload screenshots, OCR text, or translation text as part of translation.

5. Local Storage

  • Settings, shortcuts, export preferences, storage location, window state, and feature preferences are stored locally.
  • Recent screenshots in the main window are used for quick open, copy, and save actions during the current session. The current release does not include a separate persistent history library, favorites, tags, comparison, or history import/export.
  • The current release does not provide iCloud history sync. If you choose an iCloud Drive, cloud-drive, or shared folder as a custom storage location, syncing is handled by the system or third-party service you choose.
  • Quick Access, drag-and-drop, and temporary export workflows may write short-lived files to the system temporary directory. You can clear related temporary files in app settings.
  • Screen recordings are saved by default in the local Movies/Muzhai Recordings folder.
  • Silent screenshot saves are written by default to the Pictures/Muzhai folder unless you choose another destination in Settings.
  • App Store purchase state or local quota records may be stored in Keychain or local preferences.

6. Diagnostics

Muzhai may keep recent errors, permission status, Bundle ID, signing status, shortcut status, and the latest gate summary locally to help troubleshoot issues.

Only when you explicitly export a diagnostics package or copy a diagnostics report does the app create a shareable file. The diagnostics package may include local paths, permission status, redacted preferences, and error logs; review it before sharing.

7. Purchases and Licensing

For the Mac App Store version, purchases and Restore Purchases are handled by Apple App Store / StoreKit. Muzhai does not store bank card data or full payment credentials.

The current App Store version uses StoreKit purchases and Restore Purchases for unlocking. Purchase state or local quota records may be stored locally to determine feature availability.

8. Deletion and Control

  • You can quit the app to clear the current session's recent screenshots list.
  • You can delete exported screenshots, recordings, diagnostics packages, and temporary sharing files, and you can change or open the custom storage location in Settings.
  • You can revoke Screen Recording, Microphone, and file access permissions in macOS System Settings.
  • After uninstalling the app, you may manually remove related files from Application Support, Movies, Pictures, or temporary directories.

9. Children's Privacy

Muzhai is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.

10. Changes to This Policy

If app features or data handling practices change materially, this page will be updated.
