Last updated: 2026-06-27

This Privacy Policy explains how Muzhai handles screenshots, OCR text, translation content, recordings, settings, purchases, licensing, and diagnostic information.

1. Data Collection

By default, Muzhai does not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data.

Muzhai does not include third-party advertising SDKs, does not track users across apps or websites, and does not require an account.

The developer does not receive your screenshots, OCR text, recordings, history library content, or local files unless you explicitly export a diagnostics package, share files, use an online translation provider, or complete a purchase through the App Store.

2. Local Processing

  • Screenshot capture, annotation, redaction, export, pinned images, and history are processed primarily on your Mac.
  • OCR uses Apple Vision locally by default.
  • QR recognition, privacy detection, filename templates, and export rendering are performed locally.
  • MP4 / GIF recordings are saved locally. Optional microphone narration is included in MP4 recordings only when you enable it and grant microphone access.
  • Copying images, copying files, copying OCR text, or dragging content happens only when you initiate the action.

3. Permissions

  • Screen Recording permission: used to read screen, window, or selected region content when you initiate capture or recording.
  • Microphone permission: used only for optional narration in MP4 screen recordings.
  • File and folder access: used to open local images, save screenshots, export files, store history, or read locations you explicitly choose.
  • Clipboard: written only when you copy, use a copy shortcut, or drag files from the app.
  • Network access: used only for online translation, user-provided APIs, or future optional services that are clearly described in the app.
  • Accessibility permission: the Mac App Store version does not require this permission by default. Non-App Store versions may request it, with explanation, for features such as scrolling capture, window-region detection, or simulated scrolling.

4. Translation Services

Screenshot translation is triggered by you. Muzhai supports replaceable Translation Providers, such as Apple system translation, OpenAI-compatible services, DeepSeek, Gemini, DeepL, or user-provided APIs.

If you choose an online Translation Provider, OCR text or selected text may be sent to that Provider. The Provider's own privacy policy and terms apply to that processing.

API keys are not hard-coded into the app. If you save an API key, Muzhai prefers local secure storage such as macOS Keychain.

Muzhai does not automatically upload screenshots or OCR text unless you explicitly trigger translation or another sharing action.

5. Local Storage

  • Settings, shortcuts, export preferences, window state, history preferences, and feature preferences are stored locally.
  • If persistent history is enabled, screenshots, thumbnails, OCR text index, tags, and favorites are stored in the local Application Support directory.
  • If local history encryption is enabled, history data is encrypted with a local Keychain key.
  • If iCloud sync is enabled in a future build, screenshot history may sync through your iCloud account. The app will provide a setting and an explanation before enabling it.
  • Quick Access, drag-and-drop, and temporary export workflows may write short-lived files to the system temporary directory. You can clear related temporary files in app settings.
  • Screen recordings are saved by default in the local Movies/Muzhai Recordings folder.
  • Silent screenshot saves are written by default to the Pictures/Muzhai folder unless you choose another destination.
  • Authorization state, purchase state, license information, API keys, or quota records may be stored in Keychain or local preferences.

6. Diagnostics

Muzhai may keep recent errors, permission status, Bundle ID, signing status, shortcut status, and the latest gate summary locally to help troubleshoot issues.

Only when you explicitly export a diagnostics package or copy a diagnostics report does the app create a shareable file. The diagnostics package may include local paths, permission status, redacted preferences, and error logs; review it before sharing.

7. Purchases and Licensing

For the Mac App Store version, purchases and Restore Purchases are handled by Apple App Store / StoreKit. Muzhai does not store bank card data or full payment credentials.

Non-App Store versions may support an independent license key. The license key is used only to determine local feature availability and does not contain payment card information.

Local entitlement state, purchase state, license-key suffix, activation state, or quota records may be stored locally to determine feature availability.

8. Deletion and Control

  • You can disable history, keep session-only history, or clear the history library in app settings.
  • You can delete exported screenshots, recordings, diagnostics packages, and temporary sharing files.
  • You can revoke Screen Recording, Microphone, file access, and Accessibility permissions in macOS System Settings.
  • You can delete API keys or authorization information stored in Keychain.
  • After uninstalling the app, you may manually remove related files from Application Support, Movies, Pictures, or temporary directories.

9. Children's Privacy

Muzhai is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.

10. Changes to This Policy

If app features or data handling practices change materially, this page will be updated.
