ZiYa 1.1.0 · Technical Support
ZiYa (字芽识字) is a Chinese character learning app for children aged 4–6 and their families. Version 1.1.0 includes character cards, Mandarin pronunciation, read-along sentences, due reviews, family practice, seven illustrated mini-books, a sprout garden story, local child profiles, and optional daily reminders. The app interface and reading content are in Simplified Chinese; speech uses the system Mandarin voice. English on this page explains the Chinese controls for parents. App Store availability is determined by Apple’s listing.
App information
- iPhone and iPad running iOS / iPadOS 17 or later.
- Version: 1.1.0. This page describes 1.1.0; check the App Store for the version currently available to download.
- 44 Chinese characters in four themes: My Home, Food, Nature, and Read a Sentence; 48 family reading sentences and seven mini-books with 27 pages in total.
- Free content: 水, 我, 喝, 花, 看, 鱼, 山, 上, 树, 有, 小, 下, with their available learning features. Sentences composed entirely of free characters are also available. The complete mini-books “我看小鱼” (I Watch the Little Fish, four pages), “看花看树” (Flowers and Trees, three pages), and “看山看水” (Mountains and Water, four pages) are also free.
- No account, advertising, or developer-operated cloud sync; learning records stay on the device.
Getting started
- Use Today (今日) for new characters and reviews that are due. Parents can adjust the daily new-character limit; reviews follow the saved learning record.
- Use Library (字库) to search by character, word, or pinyin, listen to pronunciation, and read sentences together.
- On Today (今日), tap “读短句 · 看小书” to enter reading, then “看图画小书” for the bookshelf. The complete catalog has 48 short sentences and seven mini-books. Family prompts and actions are reading support, not a literacy assessment.
- Open Parent (家长), answer the arithmetic question, and tap “查看家长设置”. Here you can manage child profiles, reminders and learning settings, view the calendar and statistics, export or import records, restore local backups, and manage subscriptions. This gate reduces accidental access; it does not verify identity or age.
Subscriptions and purchases
A subscription unlocks the complete character catalog, all four themes, and the accompanying reading content. Plans are monthly (one month), quarterly (three months), and yearly (one year); all three are auto-renewable subscriptions with the same entitlement. The local price, currency, taxes, and final amount shown by the app are determined by Apple’s App Store storefront.
Apple handles purchases, renewals, refunds, and transaction records. ZiYa verifies Apple’s transaction on the device to determine the current entitlement; the developer does not receive payment-card information and the app does not collect a child’s identity. Parents can use “恢复购买” (Restore Purchases) or “管理或取消订阅” (Manage or Cancel Subscription) in Parent → “字芽订阅”, or cancel auto-renewal in Apple ID subscription settings. Refund requests must use Apple’s refund process.
Cancelling auto-renewal retains access until the current entitlement expires. Free content remains available after expiration or a refund that revokes access. Learning progress, history, calendar entries, unfinished lesson positions, and locally saved records are not deleted. If access is restored, learning can continue with the applicable content.
Frequently asked questions
How do I separate two children’s progress?
Open Parent → “孩子档案” (Child profiles) and add a child using a nickname of 1–20 characters; no real name or birth date is needed. Learning settings, lessons, reading positions, garden exploration, and backups are separate for each child. Switching returns to that child’s home screen. All profiles on this device share subscription access.
How do I enable a daily reminder?
In Parent settings, open “每日提醒” (Daily reminder), enable it, and choose a time. Allow notifications when the system asks on first use. Reminders are off by default and follow the device’s local time. All child profiles share one reminder rather than receiving separate alerts. Turn it off in the app or manage notification permission in system settings. Notifications contain no child nickname or learning results.
Why is there no sound?
Check device volume, Bluetooth or headphone output, and automatic speech settings in Parent. When sound is disabled, use “临时听一次” (Listen once). ZiYa uses the system Mandarin voice. If a Chinese voice is unavailable, check or download one in the system speech settings and try again.
Why are there no reviews today?
Only due characters appear in reviews, up to five per session. New exposure or help generally schedules a review for the next day; valid independent recognition progresses through intervals of 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 30, and 60 days.
How do I export, import, or restore learning records?
Select the child in Parent (家长) → Child profiles (孩子档案), then open Data management (数据管理). Export, import, restore, and reset affect only the current child. Move each child’s archive separately and import it into the matching profile. Export a `.ziya` learning archive and import it on another device after unlocking Parent. ZiYa shows a summary and attempts to back up the current record before a confirmed full replacement; it does not merge two archives. Local pre-operation and daily recovery points can also be reviewed and restored after confirmation.
Can I sync between devices?
There is no developer-operated cloud sync. Each device keeps its own progress. Use the Parent export and import tools to move records; do not delete the app to try to fix a sync issue.
How do I start over?
Go to Parent (家长) → Data management (数据管理) → Reset learning progress (重置学习进度), then confirm. This clears the current child’s progress, practice events, hint records, mini-book reading positions, and garden exploration. Other profiles, device reminders, and subscription access are unchanged. Settings and selected characters from a readable save remain, and the app attempts a recovery point before resetting.
What if a save is damaged, unsupported, or cannot be saved?
Keep the app and its data, note the message and steps, and contact support. ZiYa preserves old or unreadable saves and prevents ordinary actions from overwriting an unreadable original. Consider resetting only after deciding that the old progress is no longer needed.

A parent or guardian should contact us with the app version, device model, system version, steps to reproduce the issue, and expected result. Redact names, photos, schools, and other personal details in screenshots. We do not need a child’s identity, complete learning history, or device backup.
